The 2026 Election Filing period begins on Friday December 19, 2025.
The process begins with the “Signature In Lieu of Filing Fee Petitions” This allows candidates to obtain petition forms to secure signatures to offset the filing fee. It also allows candidates to secure the verified signatures required to appear on the ballot.
There is no cost to participate in this process. The period ends on February 4, 2026. The Nomination Period begins on February 9, 2026 and ends March 6, 2026. Candidates are required to pay a filing fee of $1,346.94 and submit a minimum of 40 valid signatures from registered voters in their Senate or Assembly District.
March 6, 2026, is the final date for candidates wanting to appear on the ballot.
As of Friday December 12, 2025 there were 41 State Assembly races in California where no Republican has filed a “Notice of Intent” to run for office. As of that date, there were 7 State Senate races where no Republican has filed a “Notice of Intent to run for office.
The California Hispanic Republican Club is dedicated to having a Republican Candidate in every State Assembly and State Senate race.
